Aug 13 We flew into Toronto Pearson Airport. I had researched the public transportation and knew to take the UP Express to Union Station. An information person helped us get maps and pointed us to the subway. We arrived at rush hour so lots of people trying to get home. Took the subway from Union to Queen where we caught the 501 street car to our AirBnB. The apartment was only two blocks away - unfortunately up a small hill pulling luggage after a long day. The shoes came off and we settled in.
Aug 14 As you can see by the above map, Gary & I walked the Ontario Beach Boardwalk. What a great resource for the community. We discovered over 100 volleyball courts! We also visited the city public swimming pool - it was huge. We stopped at the red star for an adult beverage to help cool us down as it was a very warm day.
Aug 15 Gary & I hopped on the Queen St. Trolley and then the metro to the center of Toronto. We had a tour of the Ontario Parliament building, walked thru the grounds of the University of Toronto, had lunch at an All day Dim Sum restaurant (yum), walked through Graffiti Alley, to Toronto’s old city hall, Eaton Center and then home again on the trolley. What a day!!
Aug 16 Today was more relaxed and not so much walking. We visited the Historical Distillery area and the St Lawrence Market. The market was a wonderful place to shop for food. The downtown residents must love this place!
Aug 18 Our house sitting hosts have departed for the Azores to visit family. We are left with the two cats and one dog to love. The home is about 100 yr old with beautiful wood wainscoting and stair railings. We have plenty of spices so Gary cooked up a storm of wonderful familiar recipes.
Aug 28 Diana Mark has arrived and we have decided to leave Gary at home and have a girls day out. We attend the Bata Shoe Museum. It was fasinating to see the history of the “shoe”. We also came across the Royal Ontario Musuem. We didn’t have time to visit - maybe next time.
Aug 29 The 3 of us have made our way back to the Historical Distillery District and the St Lawrence Market. We did pick up some pork ribs for dinner. The locals would have been disappointed as we took the last ones.
Sept 2 It’s about time to say goodbye to our fury friends. We had a delightful stay. Toronto and it’s surrounding neighborhoods are a great place to visit.
